FWOpera extends Woods’ contract, welcomes new principals
Date: 2/3/2012 By Betty Dillard
"The Fort Worth Opera board of directors has extended the contract for General Director Darren K. Woods for two more years, meaning he'll be there at least through June 2018.
Woods began his operatic career in 1982 as a character tenor in such venues as New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall, Washington Opera, L’Opera Madrid, Opera Trieste and Dallas Opera. He joined Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) as general director in 2001. The latest two-year extension brings Woods’ tenure as general director to 17 years.
This is the third consecutive time the board has voted to extend Woods’ contract.
Under Woods’ leadership, Fort Worth Opera, now in its 66th season and staging its sixth festival this May/June 2012, has increased both subscription and donor bases while establishing a reputation for high-quality, dynamic productions."
