Lectures & Events

You don't have to know anything about opera to enjoy it; but some entertaining background information is bound to spice up your opera experience. Since these talks are optional, we've made sure they're interesting, fun, and best of all, free!

Whether you are a novice or an old hand, you will immensely enjoy our pre-opera talks. Pre-opera previews are a delightful and entertaining dose of education. You'll learn the story of the opera, the juicy tales surrounding it, and get a sampling of the music. They begin one hour before every performance and last 30-40 minutes.

Opera On Campus

If your students are too old for Children's Opera Theatre, but you'd like to have opera at your school, consider bringing our artists to you. Performances and residencies by the FWOpera Studio artists can be arranged for your arts students or entire student bodies. Typical performances include songs and ensembles from well-known operas, pieces from our current season, as well as musical theater numbers. These performances can be tailored to your school's needs and wants and can range from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours in length. Options are also available for our young artists to speak to emerging middle and high school artists and arts classes. For more information, contact Clyde at clyde@fwopera.org

The Opera Guild of Fort Worth is a separate and independent organization from Fort Worth Opera. The Opera Guild and its members support Fort Worth Opera financially through special fundraising events, educational programs, and by providing hospitality for the visiting artists. Several events are planned annually, including the Fall and Spring Luncheons, a Holiday Party, and an Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon.

In addition, the Opera Guild sponsors the Marguerite McCammon Voice Competition every two years. The McCammon Voice Competition gives vocal artists an opportunity to perform and compete for cash prizes to assist them while working toward a professional opera career. See "McCammon" under the Discover the Opera section of this site.

The Guild has a dedicated and loyal membership and welcome new members to join them in their many activities. Please contact the opera office at 817.731.0833 ext. 12 for Opera Guild contact information.
