Opera Of The Americas
Featuring works with story arcs ranging from issues related to family life and modern day warfare, to science and iconic historical figures, these premiere operas inspire the meaningful conversations that serve as the connecting thread throughout each of our productions.
Opera of the Americas is Fort Worth Opera’s ten-year artistic commitment to the production of works from contemporary composers of the Americas. Conceived as a three-part initiative, the first phase of Opera of the Americas – launched during the 2014 FWOpera Festival – features two world premieres, two regional premieres, and one national co-production. The initiative serves to reinforce the company’s dedication to introducing new works to the operatic canon while championing North and South American contemporary composers. Opera of the Americas works include the 2014 professional world premiere of Daniel Crozier and Peter M. Krask’s With Blood, With Ink; the 2014 regional premiere of Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Silent Night (in collaboration with Minnesota Opera); the 2015 regional premiere of David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s Dog Days; and the 2016 regional premiere of Buried Alive/Embedded.
Phase One of FWOpera’s Opera of the Americas initiative culminates in 2016 – the company’s 70th anniversary season and the 10th anniversary of the FWOpera Festival — with the world premiere commissioned work JFK by David T. Little and Royce Vavrek.
Opera Unbound connects you with opera in the most up-close-and-personal way. Produced in scaled-down venues, Fort Worth Opera’s Opera Unbound series features lesser known works with larger than life stories. Unfiltered, unconventional, and unexpected, Opera Unbound’s thought-provoking works shine a spotlight on issues of social relevance and generate important and lasting civic conversations.
