Before Night Falls will put the taste of freedom in your mouth - freedom at any cost - with a Cuban flair to it. We are, naturally, particularly excited about our second world premiere opera Before Night Falls. Visitors have traveled to Fort Worth from around the world to be the first to see Jorge Martín's brilliant work about the life of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas. Premiering this opera has allowed us to expand the reaches of our opera family even more! 

Before Night Falls accomplishes what every important opera seeks to do by transcending a specific time and place to capture universal themes. Fascinated by what he calls "freedom, memory, imagination, beauty, the questing human spirit and our individual and collective frailty," composer Jorge Martín has woven these themes into a vibrant music drama. Before Night Falls leads us into the tragic circle of Arenas' life and draws us out again, tugging at the indestructible heartstrings of our common human experience.
