Opera Shots Recap
Date: 10/28/2010 By Rosebrook Classical
"In the last couple of weeks we've featured several (10/21, 10/20, 10/14, 10/12) "taking it to the streets" initiatives from classical music organizations, and last night was a local one that we were able to attend! So, we just had to tell you about it. First off, as a frequenter of the bar that hosted the program, I can attest that I had never seen it as packed as it was on a Tuesday night. The size of the crowd was more like that of a Friday or Saturday night. So, there was definitely a good amount of people who were there specifically for the Opera Shots program.
More important, however, was witnessing the people that had no idea what was going on, and were just at the Ginger Man for Pint Nite. The group in particular that sat down across from us were probably in the early-twenties range, and were a little bit ambushed by the vocalists. The performance had downtime between each singer, and that is when this group came out to the outdoor patio (which is where the event took place). So, when the next singer got up to sing, it was fun to watch the looks of confusion and shock on this group's faces. At first there was snickering, then some whispers of "what is she doing?", but as the vocalist continued singing and interacting with the audience/bar patrons, those same people started getting into the performance, and soon their whispers became "wows!" At the end of that performance, they clapped as furiously as everyone else, and talked about how cool it was. They were then pretty anxious for the next singer to get up to sing, and continued to be excited throughout the evening. In fact, we left before they did."
