Mozart: Child Prodigy.
In the 18th century, opera was the popular music of the time and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was its king. Like the most recent King of Pop, Michael Jackson, Mozart was identified as a prodigy at a very early age.
Born in 1756, the child prodigy began to play the keyboard at age 3, and to compose at age 5. Previously unknown piano pieces by Mozart, from when he was 7 or 8, were recently unveiled by the International Mozarteum Foundation during the summer 2009. They are illustrations of Mozart's early accomplishments on the keyboard and in composition.
By the time Mozart was 10, he was showcasing his compositions with performances in Austria, France, England, and the Netherlands, being regarded as a "miracle of nature."
Mozart's childhood success was only the beginning of the musical legacy that he would create in his short 35 years. Even more than 250 years later, Mozart's incredible talent continues to astonish and delight. Now that's popular music!
