Fort Worth Opera to produce two world premieres in 2014

The Fort Worth Opera, which is noted among regional American companies for devoting significant resources to new works, will enhance that reputation with two world premieres in 2014.

The company will produce A Wrinkle in Time by Libby Larsen and With Blood, With Ink by Daniel Crozier, it has announced.

Larsen and her librettist, Bradley Greenwald, are working on A Wrinkle in Time, which will be an expanded, full-length version of a one-act opera of the same title by Larsen. It is based on a popular science-fiction novel by Madeleine L'Engle.

With Blood, With Ink
, by Crozier and librettist Peter M. Krask, has been performed several times at universities and in a workshop setting by the New York City Opera, but Fort Worth's will be its first professional production.

With Blood, With Ink is based on the life of Sor (Sister) Juana Inés de la Cruz, a 17th-century Mexican nun whose intellectual and literary works and championship of women's rights offended the Inquisition, which forced her to sign an oath in blood renouncing her life's work.
