Lystistrata Brings 2012 Fort Worth Opera Festival to a Close
Date: 6/4/2012 By David Weuste, Everyday Opera

After a festival of leaps (Tosca), marriages (Marriage of Figaro), and mommy issues (Three Decembers), the 2012 Fort Worth Opera Festival came to a close with a battle of the sexes in Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata.

Adamo’s Lysistrata is a contemporary opera buffa production of the ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes. While the original play uses the comedy to satire war, Adamo uses the humor of the story to hone in on the war of the sexes…and, well…sex. By selecting just three scenes from the original play, Adamo stretches out the scenes and chooses to make the focus on the characters, people, and their relationships.
