Children's Opera Theatre (COT)

Studies show that a positive experience with arts education not only encourages a lifelong relationship with the arts, but often opens the windows of curiosity leading to a new enthusiasm and discipline for learning in general.

Fort Worth Opera and Children's Opera Theatre are dedicated to expanding the horizons of young people across the state of Texas, while concentrating our efforts in North Texas. Since 1972, Fort Worth Opera has opened millions of young minds to the colorful and exciting world of opera.

Little Red's Most Unusual Day

An operatic version of the story of Little Red Riding Hood based on scenes from operas by J. Offenbach and G. Rossini. Forest Ranger Dudley is too shy to ask Little Red's mom, the widow Hood, to the Forest Ranger Ball. For that reason he leaves a written invitation in a basket of flowers outside Little Red's house. Unfortunately for Dudley, the basket is delivered to Granny. Granny simply loves men, especially men in uniform. In the resulting confusion Dudley loses his pants, Granny kisses the Wolf, Mom gets impatient and Little Red gets in trouble. In fact, everyone experiences, in one way or another, a very, very unusual day.

The Bremen Town Musicians

Featuring the music of Offenbach, Rossini, Donizettie, and Verdi, John Davies has adapted the tale of Dorabella the Cat, Barcarolle the Dog, Eddie Pensier the Rooster, and General Boom the Donkey into a delightful children's opera.  General Boom seeks to form a band for the town of Bremen using the outcast farm animals as musicians.  It doesn't take long for them to discover that they have to consider each other's feelings before they can make music, but can they four very different creatures band together before pirates steal all their instruments?

Booking fees are based on a per-student fee of only $2.25 with a minimum $550.00 per performance. There is no charge for teachers/support staff. Book your date and return the signed contract by October and you can take advantage of a CLASS COUPON good for admitting one full classroom (30 students) for free!

Are you far enough from Fort Worth that we'd have to stay overnight? Find a sister school (or two) that we could perform at on the same day or next day as yours and you can split the travel costs!  We have spent several days in the Panhandle and in San Antonio. Coordinate with a few other schools and you could save a lot of money.

Our dates for this year are September 19 - December 16, 2011 and January 2 - April 13, 2012.
