Aida

2023

Aida is an opera set in ancient Egypt, composed by Giuseppe Verdi. It tells the story of a love triangle between the Ethiopian princess Aida, the Egyptian military commander Radamès, and the Pharaoh's daughter Amneris. Amidst political tensions and personal conflicts, Aida and Radamès struggle to navigate their feelings while being torn between loyalty to their countries and their love for each other. The opera is known for its grandeur, emotional intensity, and beautiful music, including the famous aria Celeste Aida.

Coming to us straight from her role as Aida at The Met, Michelle Bradley takes the stage on the campus of TCU at the state of the art Van Cliburn Hall. Bradley will be joined by Ben Gulley as Radames, Grammy Award winning American mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn as Amneris, Grammy and Emmy-Award winning baritone Reginald Smith Jr. as Amonasro, Met Opera favorite, Morris Robinson as Ramfis, internationally acclaimed bass Kevin Thompson as The King, soprano Adia Evans as the High Priestess, and Nathanial Catasca as the Messenger.

Fort Worth Opera first presented Aida in 1958 and was last seen in Fort Worth nearly twenty five years ago in 1999. This revival of the Italian classic will be a semi-staged interpretation featuring the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

Making her debut with Fort Worth Opera is Argentinian singer and director Malena Dayen. Malena is a 2022/23 Princeton Hodder fellow and she recently directed and performed in Firesongs, a new piece by Thomas Cabaniss that premiered at Chelsea Factory in collaboration with National Sawdust in New York City. Elaine Rinaldi will also make her Fort Worth Opera debut as the first female conductor in our 75 year history! She is the founder and artistic director of Orchestra Miami, a professional symphonic ensemble based in Miami, Florida.

Join FWO as we mingle with artists and VIP ticket holders to celebrate our week-long foray into the glorious music and history of this timeless story of love and betrayal. The party begins post performance on April 16th at TCU Van Cliburn Concert Hall, 5:00pm - 7:30pm. Get your VIP tickets today!
