
Introducing Project: Opera
Collaboration between Fort Worth Opera Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artists and local high schools in North Texas. Students and Artists combine to perform an opera on the school’s stage for friends and family.
Frequently Ask Questions
How long is the program?
30 hours of work with students (i.e. 3 hours per day, 3 days per week, 3 weeks, 3-hour tech/dress).
What is the outcome?
1 - 3 performances. One hour in length, staffed and led by host school with FWO support 1 mandatory school day performance at your school for students and up to 2 optional additional performances at your school for the community. Host school receives all ticket sales for the community performances
Who participates?
Choir students and musical theater students. Basic music knowledge and ability to sing in a group for an audience is needed.

April Community Performance Culmination
Fort Worth Opera presents a full production on a community stage of the opera with the Resident Artists and all students that participated in Project: Opera during the school year. Students do not have to participate. FWO is responsible for ticket sales and promotion. One rehearsal for spacing and up to two performances.
School Timeline
Day 1 - Introductions and sing through (3 hours)
Day 2 - Vocal work with students (3 Hours)
Day 3 - Mask making and table work (3 Hours)
Day 4 - Vocal work with students (3 Hours)
Day 5 - Table and staging with students (3 hours)
Day 6 - Sing through/Vocal clean/Costume Fitting (3 hours)
Day 7 - Staging / Vocal clean (3 hours)
Day 8 - Vocal and movement (3 hours)
Day 9 - Staging, discussion, all props, set, costumes present (3 hours)
Day 10 - Dress/Tech all elements together (3 hours)
FWO Deliverables:
Four weeks prior to the start of workshops, teachers will receive clearly marked scores, complete lesson plans, and Opera Study Guides.
Student Deliverables:
Surveys: Post show by PDF(attached) and link
Journals: Prompts given during process and handed in at the end of the process
Video Blogs: Pre and post each class/show Students given the chance to video thoughts based on prompts

Welman Project
A free resource, distributing surplus materials from local companies for creative use in the classroom and beyond. Using materials from the Welman Project stock, we plan for our sets and props to use 90% recyclable materials. Examples of non-recyclables: Fastening materials (tape, glue, etc.), perishables (food and drink product), Technical and safety needs (first aid, sound, etc.)
