Give From Your IRA
A Tax-Smart Way to Support Fort Worth Opera
If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Fort Worth Opera—supporting world-class opera, arts education, and community engagement across North Texas while potentially reducing your taxable income.
A QCD allows eligible donors to transfer funds directly from an IRA to a qualified nonprofit organization such as Fort Worth Opera without paying federal income tax on the distribution. Many donors also use IRA gifts to satisfy all or part of their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
Your support helps Fort Worth Opera bring powerful performances, inspiring educational initiatives, and transformative artistic experiences to audiences, families, and students throughout our community.
Why Consider an IRA Gift?
Your gift makes an immediate impact.
Support Fort Worth Opera’s performances, Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artist training program, education initiatives, and community engagement efforts happening today throughout North Texas.
Satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution.
If you are required to take minimum distributions from your IRA, a qualified charitable distribution may help fulfill that obligation.

Potential tax advantages.
Qualified Charitable Distributions are generally excluded from federal taxable income, which may provide tax benefits even if you do not itemize deductions.
Support the future of opera in Fort Worth.
Your generosity helps ensure that live opera, arts education, and cultural programming continue to thrive in our great city for future generations.

How It Works
To qualify for a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD):
You must be age 70½ or older.
Gifts must be made directly from your IRA administrator to Fort Worth Opera.
Eligible donors may give up to the annual IRS-qualified maximum amount.
Gifts must generally be completed by December 31 to count toward the current tax year.

Please consult your financial advisor, tax professional, or IRA administrator to determine whether a Qualified Charitable Distribution is right for you.
